Cavan Gaels Minors unfortunately piped Lurgan minors at the post in an exciting Final played in Breffni Park on Sunday last 17th October 04. Exchanges were tight in the first half but goal strikes by Martin Dunne and Anthony Quinn meant that the Gaels had a three-point advantage at the break. 2.4 to 1.4. Lurgan owned the ball for the first quarter of the second period with mid-fielder Stephen Monaghan showing well but the forwards shooting let them down. The Gaels seemed to be able to pick off the Lurgan backs on the break and score important points at will. With only minutes remaining Lurgans James Lynch scored a good point to leave only one point between the sides. It was anybodies game at this stage but it was that man again Martin Dunne, ducking and weaving who broke Lurgan hearts with a fine point. Gearoid Collins got the insurance point on the final whistle. It was a good campaign for the minors and it will stand to these young players in the future when no doubt they will lock horns with these Gaels players in the Senior Ranks. Lurgan Team: Referee; Robbie
McDermott; Ballinagh.
