Lurgan live to fight again
Lurgan 1.6 Cavan Gaels 1.6.

In a wet and mucky Brefni Park Lurgan showed their depth of character by fighting back from a four-point deficit late in the second half to draw this Division 1 Minor Championship Final on Sunday last 3rd October 2004. Played as a curtain raiser for the Senior Final it was nice to see the tradition of allowing the premium young guns in the county play before the seniors on such a major occasion.

The first half was played tough and tight with Lurgan fairing best as shown by the half-time score-line of Lurgan 0.4 Cavan Gaels 0.2.

The second half began with The Gaels showing a lot more urgency. They scored freely and a superb goal by Martin Dunne put them in command mid-way through the half. Lurgan showed the spirit that is in this team by putting in a brilliant final quarter reeling back the Gael's built-up lead. A pointed effort by team captain Anton Reilly and a major strike on goal by centre-half forward Daniel Nolan on the final whistle levelled the match.

Lurgan were delighted at the final whistle whereas The Gaels looked shattered.
They must feel they left it behind them. Lurgan can now abandon all nerves and in the knowledge of what has to be done go out and finish the job the next day.
