Powerful second - half display by Lacken Celtic.

Lacken Celtic 1-15 Ramor United 1-8

Lacken celtic produced a gritty second - half display to see of Ramor United at Breffni park on Sunday last. There were early signs that the Virginia - based side would make things difficult but Lacken, helped by the accuracy of their top scorer Finbar Reilly with eight points, dominated the second-half and emerged worthy winners.

Lacken have been team building over the last few years and it seems that this is about to bear fruit over the next few seasons. In contrast, Ramor United with former county star, veteran Dereck McDonnell at full-forward, still have to find adequate replacements for those who have gone from the panel.

Operating from midfield, was another former county player, Philip Kermath who levelled the scores in the fifth minute, following Lacken's opening point from Paul McGauran in the third minute.

Then when Finbar Reilly's free edged Lacken in front once again in the tenth minute, Kermath's shot from the right wing ended in the net.

Ramor United looked like the likely winners at this stage as they pounded the Lacken defence but goalkeeper Padraig Mulligan made a great save from Dereck McDonnell. Ogie Farrelly pointed from a 45 in the eleventh minute for a 1-2 to 0-2 lead.

Lacken hit back with a series of attacks, one of which was a goal chance from Paul McGauran but went past the right-hand post. Three more Lacken chances were wasted and immediately Ramor responded. After a Shane Cole shot hit the side-netting, Derek McDonnell pointed in the nineteenth minute.

Lacken improved in the closing stages of the first half with scores from Seamus Keoghan and Finbar Reilly (2) but Ramor kept up the pressure and Paddy McNamee and Ray Cole gave them a three point lead at the interval. 1-5 to 0-5.

Second Half

Lacken shot three wides in the opening six minutes of the second-half before they produced a good spell scoring 1-4 in seven minutes, Paul McGauran scoring the goal following a 45, and the points coming from Finbar Reilly (3) and Trevor Crowe.

By the thirteenth minute the game had changed dramatically with Lacken now leading by four points, 1-9 to 1-5. Ramor still had plenty in hand and points from Paddy McNamee and Derek McDonnell left just two points between the teams with 12 minutes left.

That was as close as Ramor came as Lacken ominated the remainder of the game adding six points to their total with one in reply from Ramor, Derek McDonnell the marksman, one minute from the end of normal time.
