Ramor United back to winning ways Ramor United 2.10. Drumgoon 2.9.

Beautiful sunshine greeted the Drumgoon team and followers to Ramor Park last Wednsday evening for round four of the Cavan Senior League. These teams had fought out a close Championship encounter just two weeks ago in Bailieboro with Drumgoon managing to hold out for a narrow victory in the end. As in the game the previous week Ramor left it to the second half to play their best football but on this occasion the Ramor United side held on to take the laurels by the minimum of margins.

The game had a dramatic opening when referee Tommy Lyons dismissed Ramor's midfielder Garreth Daly in virtually the first contact of the game. Edward Jackson converted the opener for the visitors on the second minute of the match. Ramor's centre half forward Keith Soden cut through the Drumgoon defence and rattled the net. Brian Bates proved that Drumgoon could score goals too with a low hard drive giving Francie Conway, Ramor's keeper no chance. Points were exchanged with no team gaining a dominant foothold on the game leaving the score-line at the interval Drumgoon 1.5 Ramor United 1.4

Paddy McNamee opened the scoring in the second half with a well-taken point to level the scores. Keith Fanning intercepted a short hand pass in the Ramor defence and soloed through to take his side's second goal in the third minute of the second half.
Ramor refused to lie down and a brace of points from Keith Soden and a point from half forward Aogan Cahill tied up the scores again. Drumgoon forged ahead with points from Keith Fanning and N Fortune.

With eight minutes remaining Ramor corner forward Dermot Tynan following through on a shot that came back off the upright buried the ball to the back of the net to break the hearts of the visitors. Ramor backs McHugo, Cole, Kermath, Daly, Sheridan and young Garry McNamee had some tough defending to do as the four added minutes seemed like an eternity. Ramor's Brian Brady and Drumgoon's Keith Fanning exchanged points before John Brady shot that all-important winner for the home side.

This was a good sporting game of football played at a very fast pace. The result was never certain until the final whistle.
