Bailieborough Shamrocks defeated Ramor United on a scoreline
of 3-12 to 0-11 by virtue of three goals been scored in a seven minute spell
in the first half, two coming from the penalty spot and one from the boot
of corner foward Andy Coleman.
For the first 20 minutes Ramor were on top and dominating key areas of the
field. Ramor played two inside fowards and their third foward played out around
the midfield area, this worked well early on in the first half but as Bailieboro
got more into their stride it was their corner back Philip Clarke who followed
his player out to midfield and started gaining a lot of possession.
Ramor got the 1st score on the board - a point from Barry Fitzsimons after
Paddy McNamee gave a long cross field pass which cut out the Bailieboro defence.
A minute later Keith Soden scored a point for Ramor from 40 yards out.
It was in the 17th minute when Bailieboro got their first score - a point
from Andy Coleman. Bailieboro suddenly came to life and scored their first
goal when Andy Coleman was left unmarked on the edge of the square and he
hit to the net for a goal.
Bailieboro then converted a free from Roy Brennan to leave three points between
the sides. Ramor had a great chance to level the match up in the 22nd minute
when Paddy McNamee side stepped 3 Bailieboro defenders and hit a shot from
close range but a great save by Paul O'Dowd cleared the danger. A minute later
Bailieboro scored their second goal from the penalty spot after Roy Brennan
was pulled down. He converted the penalty when he hit a low hard ball to Francie
Conways right hand post.
Andy Coleman was heavily tackled in the penalty area which resulted in the
referee pointing to the penalty spot for the second time. Roy Brennan again
took the penalty, this time putting it the opposite side of the goalkeeper
producing the same result.
Bailieboro then added two points - one from Andy Coleman and the second from
Paul Cooney from 50 yards. This left the half time score Bailieboro 3-4 Ramor
0-2
Ramor reverted to the conventional 3 full fowards for the
2nd half and replaced Aoghan Cahill with Alan Farrelly but it was Bailieboro
who scored first with a point from Ciaran Clarke. Paddy McNamee then converted
a free for Ramor from 30 yards.
Paddy McNamee then took another free which hit off the post and landed in
the square , a Ramor player was the quickest to react and a point was the
result. Roy Brennan and Andy Coleman then added a point each to the Bailieboro
score leaving 12 points between the teams. Shane Cole then intercepted a pass
between two Bailieboro players and scored a point.
Shane Cole was then brought down in the square by Philip Clarke following
a free from Paddy McNamee. The referee gave a penalty and dismissed the Bailieboro
player. John Brady took the penalty but Paul O' Dowd was on his game and saved
the shot. Barry Fitzsimons then scored his second point. Ramor then brought
on Niall McHugo to replace Frank Comey to try and change the pattern of the
game. Paddy McNamee was working very hard up front and was rewarded with two
points from play in the 14th and 15th minute. Peter Monaghan replaced John
Brady on the Ramor team and Brian O' Callaghan replaced Ciaran Clarke and
Ollie O'Callaghan replaced Adrian Larkin on the Bailieboro team. Ollie O'Callaghan
added two points to the Bailieboro score just after been introduced. Shane
Cole then replied with a point from 40 yards out to leave the score Bailieboro
3-10 Ramor 0-10. Two further points were added for Bailieboro and David McDonnell
scored the last point for Ramor to leave the full time score Bailieboro 3-12
Ramor 0-11.
Ramor will be disappointed with the last 25 minutes of the 1st half when they
failed to register a single score with them playing very well in the second
half and outscoring Bailieboro by a single point. Bailieboro will have to
settle into their game a lot more quickly if they're to make an impression
on this years championship and they displayed that they can still put some
good sweeping moves together which can penetrate any teams defence
