A.C.F.L. Division
1; Ramor Utd V Redhills.
Ramor Park Virginia 18-04'10. Referee ; Brian Crowe.
Ramor Utd 0-7.
Redhills 1-10.
This was Ramor's first
outing in the League and their first competitive game under new manager
Kevin Mc Donnell. The game, played before a large crowd failed to excite,
and both sides were guilty of juvenile mistakes and squandered chances.
Ramor got off to a flying start and had a goal chance in the opening seconds,
but James Mc Enroe's effort grazed the post and blazed wide. A minute
later Donal Farrelly's shot went wide. Redhills had a chance to open the
scoring with a 25 m free, but Packie Leddy missed.
Anton O'Reilly, operating at mid-field delivered a great ball into Ronan
Keating, but he shot wide. Alan Dunne's attempt in the 7th minute also
went wide. Adrian Cole was fouled out at the 40m line and Anton O'Reilly
took the resultant free. His kick was high and bounced on the goal line
and went over the bar for Ramor's first point. Redhills replied when Packie
Leddy sent a quick free to Rory Dunne who kicked over the bar. Kieran
West went off injured in the 14th minute and was replaced by Martin Walsh
who proved very influential in the game. Leddy converted West's free and
edged Redhills ahead. Two minutes later a free was awarded to Redhills
and Pearse West passed a quick ball to Colin Reilly who delivered to the
inrushing Leddy and he made no mistake and slotted over the bar.
Anton O'Reilly converted a free, and a great ball in from James Mc Enroe
to Adrian Cole resulted in another point for Ramor and levelled the sides.
Rory Dunne fielded and laid a good pass to Martin Walsh and he scored
a fine point in the 21st minute. Redhills had two wides, from Brian Reilly
and Alan Dunne, and back in the Ramor attack, Rory Dunne cleared a 45
attempt by James Mc Enroe. A defining moment in the game came as Rory
Dunne won the ball in defence and made a run up the field and gave a long
high ball in to Colin Reilly who ran at the Ramor back line and blasted
a shot to the back of the net catapulting his side 5 points ahead. A point
each followed from Anton O'Reilly (free) and Martin Walsh from play, just
on the stroke of half time.
Second Half;
Anton O'Reilly opened the scoring with a point from play and Aodghan Cahill
kicked wide as Ramor went on the attack. Oisin Minagh thwarted at least
three Ramor attacks in the next five minutes , clearing the ball up the
field. Another dangerous high ball in was cleared by goalie Fintan Reilly,
and three points without reply came from Colin Reilly, Gary Kelly and
Rory Dunne, the latter having made an uncontested run from mid-field.
Ramor had a chance when Shane Gaffney, after receiving a good ball from
Aodghan Cahill, had his shot at goal deflected for a 45. Almost immediately
the ball was cleared and Oisin Minagh nabbed a point for his side, punishing
Ramor further. Ramor missed two frees, and the misery was to continue.
Anton O'Reilly won the ball in defence and burst up the field and gave
a perfect ball to Adrian Cole, who was one on one with the keeper but
was very unlucky as his shot blasted wide of the post. Both sides recorded
wides before Packie Leddy converted a free for a foul on Oisin Minagh
in the 27th minute. This was Redhills last score of the game. Consolation
points for Ramor came from Gareth Daly and Donal Farrelly in the last
two minutes of play.
Final score Ramor 0-7, Redhills 1-10.
