Cavan Minor League Division 2, Ramor V Lacken.

Ramor entertained Lacken on St. Patrick’s morning in sunny, breezy conditions in Virginia. It was an ideal day for football, and the game served up an excellent fare, with two evenly matched sides producing some wonderful scores and spells of play.

Lacken were first to the scoreboard with a Stephen Brady point from play in the first minute, followed by a Niall Mc Kiernan point, also from play.Jack Brady responded for the Ramor team with two points in quick succession to level matters after 5 minutes. After good ball work from Cian Gargan, Simon Cadden pointed from play, this was quickly followed by a point from Kevin Mulvanny. Ramor were in control at this stage, and made the most of their dominance with a well taken goal from Christopher Sheils in the 16th minute to put Ramor five up.Lacken responded a minute later with a free from Niall Mc Kiernan. A couple of minutes later Liam Hyland scored a goal for Lacken, and straight from the kick out Craig Lanauze found the back of the net with a speculative shot to put Lacken two points in the clear.

In the 23rd minute, Jack Brady converted a free to narrow the gap, and Killian Treacey levelled matters almost immediately with a good point from an acute angle. From the resultant kickout, Ramor gained possession and Kevin Mulvanny’s accurate attempt gave his team the advantage once again. With time running out in the first half, Jack Brady fisted a point from play to leave a half time score of Ramor; 1-8, Lacken 2-3.

At the start of the second half Ramor replaced Kevin Cole with Cian Wogan, and Lacken moved Niall Mc Kiernan to mid-field.

Fergal Brady for Lacken opened the scoring with a point from play in the 2nd minute and then Niall Mc Kiernan ran through the Ramor defence to slot over the levelling point. In the 6th minute Eoin Donohoe put Lacken one ahead with a point from play. The game ebbed and flowed for the next few minutes with both sides battling hard to gain possession. It was Ramor who edged ahead in the 9th minute in the guise of an Adam O’Connell goal, after a great pass from Christopher Sheils. Two minutes later, Colm Murphy pushed Ramor three points ahead with a well taken point. In the 13th minute, Craig Lanauze eventually scrambled the ball to the net after several attempted saves from Alan Treacey. Stephen Brady pointed for Lacken to give his team the lead with 15 minutes remaining. However, Jack Brady responded with a well taken long range point to level matters once again. Two points in quick succession from Christopher Sheils and Jack Brady gave Ramor the lead. Eoin Donohoe for Lacken clawed backed with a point , and it was Liam Hyland who levelled matters again in the 20th minute. Three minutes later, Jack Brady, after a one-two with Adam O’Connell gave his side a morale lifting score to edge them back into the lead, and with time running out Killian Treacey pointed to give Ramor a two point lead to which they held on until the final whistle. Final score; Ramor 2-14. Lacken 3-9.

For Ramor, Colm Lynch, Darren Lynch and Cian Gargan were great in defense., with Enda Farrelly giving an excellent performance at full back. Colm Murphy and Simon Cadden worked hard in mid-field. Jack Brady was outstanding in the forward line with good support from Killian Treacey, Christopher Sheils, Adam O’Connell and Kevin Mulvanny.

For Lacken Karl O’Reilly, Declan Brady, Thomas O’Reilly were very sound in defense. In midfield Stephen Brady and Niall Mc Kiernan, when moved out in the second half, caused problems for Ramor. Eoin Donohoe, Liam Hyland, Craig Lanauze and Fergal Brady were very threatening in the forward line.
