Ramor Utd V Gowna.
It was all to play for on Friday evening last in Lavey as Ramor took on Gowna in their third game of the championship campaign. Ramor opened their account with a Jack Brady free after a foul on Adrian Cole in the opening seconds of the game. A minute later, Gowna's Willie Stephens converted one for his side. Drama ensued in the 3rd minute as Niall Madden won the kick-out,laid the ball off to Raymond Keogh who passed it on to the inrushing Ciaran Fitzpatrick and he crashed the ball to the back of the Ramor net.

In the 5th minute, Niall Madden was adjudged to have fouled the ball, and Jack Brady converted the resulting free. Ramor's wing forward Philip Fitzsimons intercepted a pass and set up Paddy Mc Namee for a good point from play. Mark Mc Keever converted two consecutive frees to put Gowna ahead by 3 with 8 minutes played.Paul Quealy had a wide for Ramor before a good move resulted in Adrian Cole being brought down 30 metres out, and Jack Brady made no mistake with the free.

Gowna responded when Gerald Pierson found Ciaran Fitzpatrick whose accuracy put Gowna four points clear. Another indescretion in the Gowna defence was punished by the accuracy of Jack Brady from a tight angle to narrow the gap for Ramor.Christopher Madden surged up the field, but was brought down, but the free came back off the post only for Gerald Pierson to be fouled, and Mc Keever made no mistake straight in front of the posts.
Niall Madden was dominating mid-field for Gowna and kept them on the
attack, but Ramor on a rare break up-field, gained a point from play
from the boot of Philip Fitzsimons. From the kick-out Niall Madden fielded and found the in-form Ciaran Fitzpatrick who scored another point for Gowna.A Mc Keever pass into Pierson resulted in the latter being fouled and he converted himself to put his side 5 points ahead. In one of the best moves of the game, just before the stroke of half time, Ronan Keating's pin point pass found Adrian Cole whose quick pass to Paddy Mc Namee caught the Gowna defence and the ball was in the back of the net, reducing the deficit to just two points.

The second half started with two substitutions; Emmett Daly and Paddy Brennan coming into the Ramor team. Stefan Connolly reverted to full back to mark Gerald Pierson. In Gowna's first attack of the second half Ray Cole fouled Brendan Madden and received his second yellow card of the game and was sent off by referee Joe Mc Quillan.Gowna dominated for a five minute spell after this , and recorded a number of wides.

However, Mark Mc Keever steadied the ship to send over a point to increase Gowna's lead. Gerald Pierson had a number of wides while under pressure, before Mark Mc Keever pointed from way out. Gowna squandered two more chances, and it took Ramor until the 10th minute to register a score, a point coming from young Jack Brady.

Gowna's Niall Madden scored a fine point from play. Ramor introduced Christopher Sheils to replace Barry Fitzsimons, and Philip Fitzsimons reverted to wing back. Gowna made a change too, with Shane Briody replacing Brendan Madden. Ramor had a spell of dominance, but failed to make use of the ball, notching up three wides. Paddy Brennan was heading goal bound , but was fouled and Jack Brady converted the resulting free to leave just three between the sides. From the kick out, Paddy Mc Namee score a fine point from play after good work from Jack Brady and Christopher Sheils. Ciaran Madded pointed for Gowna, maintaining the goal between the sides going toward injury time. Paddy Mc Namee looked to have been fouled on the 14m line but play was waved on, and a minute later, after Mark Mc Keever had another wide for Gowna , referee Joe McQuillan blew the final whistle after a minimum of injury time played. Final score Gowna; 1-12. Ramor 1-9.

Gowna go through to the quarter finals while Ramor go to the Relegation play-offs, where they will meet Cuchulainns yet again.

All in all Gowna must be happy with what was their best performance to date, but must look to improve their accuracy in front of goal .

For Ramor's part, they seem to have a lack of creativity, particularly in the forward line, having only scored 1-3 from play.
