Senior League 2008 Round 2

Ramor 3-20
Shercock 2-6

Ramor entertained Shercock in Virginia on Saturday last in blustery, but dry conditions. Playing against the wind in the first halfRamor opened the scoring with a good Donal Farrelly point in the third minute, followed by a Philip Fitzsimons point moments later. Ramor were in control at this stage, but careless play in the middle of the field resulted in a Shercock goal for Paddy Mc Phillips.

Ramor responded with a point from Micheal O’ Reilly, after great play from Daire Sheridan, then Shane Gaffney put Ramor back in front with a well taken point. Paddy Mc Namee opened his account of the day scoring a great point..At this stage Shercock introduced Francis McPhillips for Gary Smith in an attempt to get a foothold in the half back line, but it had no effect,as Daire Sheridan added a point from play. After being fouled himself, Ronan Keating added to the tally. Ramor were playing well at this stage, and a move starting with Ray Cole at full back ended up in a fine Donal Farrelly score at the other end of the field. However Shercock finished the half strongly with a point from play from Cathal O’ Reilly, and two subsequent frees from Kenny Burns and Cathal O’Reilly to leave the half time score; Ramor Utd; 0-8, Shercock 1-3.

The second half started off with Ramor introducing James Mc Enroe for the impressive Micheal O’Reilly(injured) and Paul Quealy for Donal Farrelly, also injured. Sub Mc Enroe’s pass found Ado Cole who duly slotted the ball between the uprights. Then Anton Reilly passed to the waiting Ado Cole inside, who made no mistake finding the back of the net. Cathal O’Reilly and Paul Quealy exchanged points, then O’Reilly scored yet another point before James Mc Enroe added his name to the scoresheet with a point. Gareth Daly replaced Raymond Farrelly, and Alan Farrelly exchanged goalies jersey with Aoghan Cahill. Paddy Mc Phillips with a good Shercock point seemed to jog Ramor into gear, as Anton Reilly split the posts. From the kick-out Anton Reilly found Paddy McNamee with a pin point pass and the tricky forward rattled the bottom corner of the net. Points followed from Paul Quealy and Ado Cole, and Ramor were dominating. Yet another Quealy point left Ramor cruising until Philip Burns found fisted to the net to give Shercock a life-line. This was shortlived as Paddy Mc Namee pointed from play and one minute later found the net and finished the game as a contest. Ogie Farrelly replaced Paddy Mc Namee, and three unanswered points from Ronan Keating, Ado Cole and Gareth Daly gave Ramor a resounding victory.Final Score; Ramor 3-20. Shercock 2-6.

This was a very fine overall team performance and Ramor will face Knockbride on Saturday with a clean sheet.
