Ramor V Dernacrieve;

On Saturday last, a cold windswept Ramor Park was the venue for the Division 2 league game between Ramor and Dernacrieve. Ramor were hoping for a fourth successive win, despite being without a couple of players due to injury.

Dernacrieve opted to play with the strong wind in the first half, and this seemed to be advantageous as they scored a fine goal coming from the boot of Seamus Mc Aweeney, seconds into the game. Ramor responded with a Jack Brady point, and minutes later Christopher Sheils found the back of the net. Drenacrieves Seamus Mc Aweeney scored a point to leave the sides level after 10 minutes. Joey Glackin and Jack Brady added two points to Ramor’s tally. Drenacrieve began to dominate at this stage and scored four unanswered points, coming from Kevin Mc Govern, Gearoid Mc Kiernan, Sean Mc Goldrick and Seamus Mc Aweeney. Two minutes before half time Christopher Sheils scored a fine point from play to give leave his side trailing by one. Half –time score- 1-4 to 1-5.

The second half opened with two points from play against the wind from the boot of Declan Greene, and it looked ominous for Ramor.However, the half-time introduction of Greg Kerrigan gave Ramor a much needed boost as he scored a fine long range point.From the kick out, Damien Barkey fielded the ball, laid it off to Jack Brady who found Christopher Sheils unmarked, and the latter rounded the full back, and made no mistake finding the bottom corner of the net. Ramor piled on the pressure with two more points from Jack Brady and Christopher Sheils. Ramor were in control now, with Greg Kerrrigan and Damien Barkey dominating, backed up by a solid Ramor defence. Further points from Jack Brady (5) and Greg Kerrigan (1) put the game beyond Dernacrieves reach. Things were to take a turn, however as Dernacrieve notched up a goal and a point from mid-fielder Gearoid Mc Kiernan and a point from Kevin Mc Govern. Ramor were relieved to hear the final whistle and bagged the points on offer. Full time score; Ramor 2-13, Dernacrieve 2-10.

For Ramor Arainn Farrelly was sound in goals, Matthew Mc Aweeney was outstanding at full back, getting good support from Adam O’ Connell, Killian Treacey and Colm Murphy and Darren Lynch. Damien Barkey was excellent in mid-field, while up front, Christopher Sheils, Cian Gargan and Jack Brady were always a threat.

For Dernacrieve, Jim Mc Kiernan, Donal Mc Govern, Sean Murphy and Paul O’ Brien were best in defence. Gearoid Mc Kiernan and Sean Mc Goldrick were a handful at mid-field. In the forwards, Seamus Mc Aweeney,. Declan Greene and Kevin Mc Govern were dangerous.
