Ramor entertained Drumlane in a Division 2 league game on Sunday last (22nd June) in extremely windy conditions.

The weather was certainly not conducive to good flowing football, nevertheless the sizeable crowd gathered had lots of talking points afterwards. Drumlane came into the game confident after good wins over Drung and Killeshandra, while Ramor were hoping to get back on track, having dropped a point in a drawn game against Redhills. Ramor were always in control of this game, and after an opening point from Adrian Cole in the 6th minute , they stayed ahead until the final whistle.

Stephen Monaghan converted a free three minutes later. Drumlane responded with a fine point from mid-fielder Barry Corrigan. After a good flowing move up the field, James Mc Enroe pointed from long range to put Ramor two ahead. Minutes later, Stephen Monaghan was on song to slot over a free for a foul on Ronan Keating.Ramors next score came from the boot of Anton O’Reilly from a 45.At this stage it looked like the game was in the bag for Ramor, however, Drumlane had other ideas. Points from Shane Kelly, Barry Corrigan(free) and Adrian Greene left the minimum between the sides as the half time whistle sounded. Ramor had the benefit of a very strong wind in the first half, and may have thought that their chance to seal the victory was gone, however, this was not to be the case.

Once again, Adrian Cole opened Ramors account with a well taken point at the start of the second half.

This was followed by what was the best move of the match, with Gareth Daly clearing the ball out of defence to James Mc Enroe who found Stephen Monaghan unmarked, and the latter made no mistake, slotting the ball over the black spot.

Two minutes later Stephen Monaghan was on target with a free, courtesy of a foul on James Mc Enroe. Moments later , in the 15th minute,Monaghan added to his impressive tally with another well taken point from play. This was to be Ramors last score of the game. Drumlane opened their account of the second half in the 16th minute with a Barry Corrigan free from 80 yards. Six minutes the same player scored a point from the side line to leave three points between the sides. This was the last score of the game. While Ramor will be glad to take the points, there will be lots to improve on, as they prepare for the Championship. Drumlane will be back to the drawing board also, as they only managed to register two converted frees in the second half , and against fourteen men as Ramor’s Anton O’Reilly was handed a second yellow card and dismissed from the field with ten minutes remaining.Final Score; Ramor 0-9. Drumlane 0-6.
