Senior League 2008 Round 3

Ramor V Ballymachugh

Ramor United - 2-10
Ballymachugh - 0-10

Virginia, April 5th. Ref; Jim Hyland.

Ramor entertained Ballymachugh in very cold blustery conditions on Saturday evening last in front of a large crowd.

Ramor played with the elements in the first half, but it was Barry Kiernan for the visitors who opened the scoring with a fine point. Ramor replied minutes later with a Peter Monaghan free. Ramor continued to pile on the pressure but had a couple of bad wides, before Anton Reilly and Ronan Keating laid the ball off to the in-rushing Paddy Mc Namee who scored a fine point. While Ramor were dominating at mid-field, they were wasting chances with poor finishing. Darren Lynch in the Ballymachugh goals pulled off a fine save from a Paddy Mc Namee shot. Peter Monaghan got inside the Ballymachugh defence, only to see his shot hit the post, but Paddy Mc Namee was there to put the rebound into the net. In the 25th minute another Paddy Mc Namee point put Ramor further ahead. Ballymachugh got their second score of the game in the form of a James Kiernan free. Ramor replied with a Mc Namee free moments later. With Ramor cruising at this stage, lady luck was to shine, when referee Jim Hyland awarded a penalty for a foul on Philip Fitzsimons, which Paddy Mc Namee duly converted on the stroke of half time, leaving Ramor with an 8 point lead at half time.

The second half started with a Ballymachugh point from a free from James Kiernan. From the kick-out Stefan Connolly found Shane Gaffney who in turn laid it on to Micheal O’Reilly who scored a superb point from 40 yards. Minutes later Paddy McNamee converted a free to increase the Ramor lead to 9 points.Paul Quealy was introduced for Donal Farrelly on the Ramor Team. Both sides exchanged wides before Richie Fitzsimons converted a 45 for Ballymachugh. A minute later Philip Fitzsimons struck what was to be Ramors last score of the game, after good work from Joe Hopkins and Paddy Mc Namee.

Ballymachugh upped the ante with a pointed free from James Kiernan. From the kick out Michael Hill scored a great point from outside the 45m line. Adrian Daly and Niall Baxter replaced Michael Hill and Richard Fitzsimons. James Kiernan added another point for Ballymachugh in the form of a free. Sub Adrian Daly pointed from play, and minutes later Niall Baxter added another. James Kiernan’s shot at goal was well saved by Aoghan Cahill, but the rebound fell to Aodhan Kiernan who pointed for the visitors. Much to the relief of the Ramor side, the full time whistle was blown after seven minutes of injury time, to leave a score-line of 2-7 to 0-10.

Best for Ramor were Joe Hopkins , Raymond Farrelly and Stefan Connolly in defence, while mid-field struggled in large parts of the game. Up front Paddy Mc Namee and Ronan Keating were the pick of the bunch.

For Ballymachugh Darren Lynch in goals pulled off some great saves, Gavin Smith and Padraig Galligan and Finbarr Sheridan played well in defence.
