Drung were visitors to Ramor United on Sunday evening last at the home
venue in Virginia with ideal conditions for a football match.
It was Ramors Stephen Monaghan who opened the scoring with a point from
a free, Shane Cole added another from play for Ramor one minute later.
In the sixth minute Paul Slowey kicked over Drungs first point and two
minutes later Martin O'Reilly put Drung ahead with a goal from the penalty
spot. Ramors centre field man Peter Monaghan added his first point and
another Monaghan man this time Killian from Drung burst through the Ramor
defence to score a second goal leaving the visitors leading 2-1 to Ramors
0-3 after eighteen minutes of play.
The sides were evenly matched and exchanged scores with a goal from Aoghan
Cahill putting Ramor back in the driving seat. Shane O'Rourke got a great
long range point for Drung and Shane Cole replied with an equally good
long range point for Ramor. It was Killian Monaghan who finished the scoring
of the first half leaving the score 2-3 to 1-4 in favour of Drung.
Ramor introduced Ronan Keating for Shane O'Reilly at the start of the
second half as did Drung with Barry Watters replacing Stephen O'Reilly.
Ramor had the better of the exchanges in the early stages of the second
half but failed to put it on the score board and it was Drungs Martin
O'Reilly who got the first point of the second half after eight minutes.
Aoghan Cahill broke the hoo-doo and put a point between the posts to the
relief of the Ramor mentors. Brian Brady added two more points in the
twelfth and fifteenth minutes with another from a free by Stephen Monaghan
put Ramor ahead 1-8 to 2-4 with ten minutes left. Ramor now brought on
Ronan Fitzsimons for Ogie Farrelly and Drung introduced Karl O'Rourke
for Brendan Brady.
Martin O'Reilly and cousin Conor O'Reilly had points for Drung with the
Monaghan brothers tapping one each over from frees for Ramor. The last
score came from the boot of Martin O'Reilly to level the game
